Understanding how the past influences the present and the future

Vision for History

At Dove Bank we aim to create a high-quality Historical curriculum which will ignite children’s curiosity about the past in Britain and the wider world.

Through finding out about how and why the world, our country, culture and local community have developed over time, children understand how the past influences the present.

What’s New?

At Dove Bank we use the Cornerstones curriculum which helps to ensure that skills are built on year by year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for children.

The Cornerstones curriculum has been developed to teach history across the year, so every child will experience a variety of subject content and historical subject knowledge of people, events and content from historical periods covered.

Subject Leader Biography

Hello my name is Mrs. Davies and I have the pleasure of leading History at Dove Bank.

I have a love of history and feel it is important we understand events from the past and do not just accept the written word or internet as the whole ‘story’.

Subject priorities

Develop a passion for history and an enthusiastic engagement in learning, which develops their sense of curiosity about the past and their understanding of how and why people interpret the past in different ways.

Develop a secure knowledge and understanding of people, events and contexts from the historical periods covered.

Enable ability to think critically about history and communicate confidently in styles appropriate to a range of audiences.

Develop ability to consistently support, evaluate and challenge their own and others’ views using detailed, appropriate and accurate historical evidence derived from a range of sources.
