RSE/PSHE Curriculum

Relationships, Sex and Health Education at Dove Bank Primary School

At Dove Bank Primary School, our school ethos of 'Putting Children First' is a core driver for what and how we teach the children about Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE). Through this area of the curriculum, we aim to ensure that all children:

- develop good communication skills

- develop confidence in themselves

- develop a positive body image

- develop strong personal safety skills

Most elements of the RSHE curriculum are statutory except for Sex Education which is part of the Relationships and Sex Education curriculum (RSE). Whilst we are not required to provide any level of sex education to primary ages children, we believe that in not offering this we are not enabling children to fully develop their strong personal safety skills. By providing the full RSHE curriculum to all of the children at Dove Bank Primary School, we give every child the best chance of keeping themselves safe.

Dove Bank Primary School Relationships Sex and Health Education Presentation

The following presentation provides an overview of the content of the curriculum, why it is taught and when in the year it might be delivered. This presentation is a summary of the information contained in the school policy, appendices and government guidance.

Dove Bank Primary School - RSHE Policy and Appendices

We develop our policy documents at Dove Bank Primary School to include the best support for the safety of our children as well as the key information from the Department for Education's subject guidance. Please find below our RSHE policy together with appendices for each year group which provide example lessons and vocabulary. There is also a subject withdrawal form.

PARENTS HAVE YOUR SAY...

All schools have a duty to:

- Give information about the curriculum
- Consider whether different faith views should be included in the delivery of lessons
- Describe the law in this country as it relates to the different views and opinions of people
- Consult parents on relationships education on when and how the different statutory elements are taught

You can submit your views through your class teacher on Dojo or via the school office at: office@dovebank.org.uk
